Summer 2006

It has been way too long again sending information on this blogger. I will try to catch up things quickly and will get some new pictures linked this weekend. Margaret wore a Plavnik harness for 10 weeks and it worked! Her hip went back into place and grinded itself a nice little cup! She will wear a bucket for 18 hours a day but Dr's are very confident that she will be just fine! The girls are doing wonderfully. Kathryn is about 17 pounds and Margaret is about 15.5. The have been spending their Summer down on the Cape out of the intense heat we have been having. They both have wonderful personalities and are on a very tight schedule. They are sleeping thru the night and are in bed no later than 7p each night! I will get some pictures on this site so you can see for yourself!

Thank you all of you for your kindness and genrousity always.

May 24, 2006

Hi:

We just wanted to let everyone know as well as mark this moment in time so Margaret can remember it that she was diagnosed today with hip dysplasia in her right hip. Our pediatrician thought he felt a clicking at their last wellness check-up and we brought both girls in to have ultrasounds and xrays done. The orthopedic doc confirmed that she has hip dysplasia and he prescribed a "plavnik harness" that she has to wear 24/7 :( She is not coping so well with it now but they say she will get used to it and she will never remember this unless she reads this blog or we tell her - I guess that is the good part about all of this. She will have to wear it for one week, get checked and continue to wear it with weekly check-ups. Hopefully, the brace will shorten up the groin muscle enought to move the ball back fully into the socket. If not, they do a small surgical procedure and put her in a cast and finally, they would have to do hip surgery to get the ball back in the socket if all else fails.

Kathryn's hips look good though and according to the doctor 1 out of 4 hips is good odds for babies born prematurely.

Thank you all for you kindness, support and generousity.

Happy Birthday to Kathryn and Margaret! 5 months old today! Corrected age - 3 months and one week! They have been doing very well since our last entry. Auntie Marie came and visited the girls and helped Mom out and took unbelieveable photos of which I will post some on this site. Auntie Marie was fantastic and the girls had a great time! Then, Auntie Liz came a visited for a few days! Auntie Liz was a great help and she and the girls had a great time bonding!

Both girls are weighing in over 13 pounds. Kathryn has made the (expected) leap and weighs about a pound more than Margaret. The girls look very much alike. Mom and I can tell the difference and maybe Grammie Quinn but most other people are still trying to figure it out!

The girls have been getting their shots and in fact, they have to go to an orthopeadic appointment next week and the Doctors want to check out their hips. They heard a little clicking last time they were examined.

Both girls have great personalities. They smile and laugh and seem to be really happy little girls. Mom has been amazing. Thank you everyone for all of your love, support and generousity. I will post more often, I promise.

Hi:

Just wanted to throw some new photos on the site so everyone who is interested can see how the girls are doing. They have been well! Both are sitting around 11 lbs - not sleeping thru the night yet but doing much better as their mother has them on a strict schedule!

We thank you all for your support.

This photo was taken on St. Patrick's Day. To avoid getting pinched, the girls asked if they could wear their little green onesies!

Both girls are doing great! Margaret is just shy of 9 pounds and Kathryn is right behind her at 8 pounds 9 ounces! They are sleeping about 3 or 4 hours at a time and during their awake time, they are much more alert, looking around and have started to recognize both parents. We get a social smile every now and then!

Grandma Shannon left a couple of weeks ago and they miss her terribly. Grandma Quinn has been over several days and nights and they are having fun with her! Uncle Joe Shannon and his family came and visited last week for a day or two and the girls are looking forward to seeing their Aunt Marie who is coming at the end of the month. We took the girls out for their first walk the other day and they seemed to enjoy it. It is still too cold here to walk very far but as soon as it warms up, we will start to take them out on a stroll daily.

Thank you to everyone for you love, support and generousity. It is hard to believe that these are the same babies and they could not have done all that they have without all of you.

Love,

Kathryn and Margaret are doing great! Dr. Mike (pediatrician), made a housecall on Sunday and garnered the weights from the girls at 7 lbs 14oz and 7lbs 6oz for Margaret and Kathryn respectively. Grandpas and Grandmas alike have been helping us tremendously with their upbringing. Both girls are sleeping 3 to 4 hours stints and getting used to a pretty steady schedule. Lots of family helping and visiting, cousins coming by, dogs keeping watch and a tired but happy Mom and Dad!

Thank you everyone! We could not do any of it without your love, prayers, generousity and kindness.
